La Casa Hogar Celebrates
“Dia De Los Niños”
Children Enjoyed Games and Made Beautiful Artwork!
It is tradition that we celebrate birthdays, Mother’s day and Father’s day. In the Latino community it is also tradition to celebrate children's day.
The "dia de los niños" celebration began at the Yakima Valley Musuem where Rodrigo Troyo, from the Mexican Consulate, introduced the exhibit that featured hand-made art from children in Mexico. The excitment continued at Franklin Park where children got a chance to make their own art work, play games, dance and have cake and aguas frescas.
Many thanks to the Yakima Valley Museum, Mexican Consulate, Radio KDNA, Ready by Five, Catholic Family & Child Services, Yakima School District and Pepe’s Bakery and La Morenita for making this event possible.

Students Devote Spring Break
to La Casa Hogar
Students Participate in
English Immersion
Most college students, after taking their last exam of winter quarter, can’t wait for spring break. Many have plans for vacation, but how many have plans to devote their entire break making a difference in people’s lives by serving at a non-profit organization? This has been a tradition here at La Casa Hogar for twelve years. Each year there are new faces, but always the same warm spirit. For one week the Newman students teach our students the “American Culture” by exploring different activities and foods. All our students were encouraged to speak English and eat American food. It was a great learning experience for everyone.

Prevent Homelessness
The staff at 107 House Emergency Services continues to serve the community by assisting the homeless and others who are affected by the economic downturn.
Now a new program is being added: Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP). The program is for families who have received an eviction notice and are soon to be homeless. Before being accepted into the program, families will complete an application packet to determine qualification.
