Cultural Insight presented to Doctors

La Casa Hogar teaches about the Mexican cultural to second year

residence at Central Washington Family Medicine

The expectation of the class was to mutually share the cultural difference between Mexican  immigrant woman and their families and the medical profession.  The class focused on three core common values; communication, family and respect.  The teaching included role plays, personal stories and insight on Mexican home remedies.  One of the       residents had this to share about the class; “Enjoyable and eye opening, I felt the class was authentic.”

a new employee

Last month Darlene was hired to assist Kent and Mireya in Emergency Services. Darlene moved here from Arizona, where she most recently was a houseparent in a children’s home. “Conversation: Faith, Values, and

Immigration Reform”

Thank you for Listening

Many thoughts were expressed very positive response to the conversation presentation by David Vasquez at the Season’s. We heard a non judgmental and much broader perspective than is often provided. One of the participants described it this way “The presentation provided an opportunity for solutions rather than conflict.”  Pastor Vasquez in addressing the very complex issue of immigration reform linked it with two other major US policies, trade and labor. He then rolled it up in the biblical narrative documenting the natural historic phenomenon of migration.  In reference to church involvement: silence is acceptance of the status quo.

  • Immigration, trade, labor policies and laws interact and work against each other.
  • Migration is a normal part of the human experience often a pull toward the Promise or dream or a push by a crisis or economic situation.
  • The Bible is about peoples’ migration.
  • Silence is acceptance of the status quo.

Yakima Interfaith Coalition is committed to provide leadership to continue “The Conversation.” Your ideas will shape our next steps.
