A letter from the Executive Director:

‘Tis the season of gift giving, and receiving. So often we think of “gifts” from the prospective of material things. We fuss and stew over what to buy, how much money to spend, what do they need? Will they like the gift you have chosen? What will they think about us even giving a gift? How much can I afford to give this year to my favorite charities? Frankly, it’s often a struggle for many of us.

Have you ever pondered this question: How are you a gift to others? Try it on for size.
Say it to yourself. I am a gift to others. Does it fit? Is it too small, or perhaps way too big?

I have a favorite note card with the message “Just to be is holy.” The message means a lot to me when I read it or send it to friends. It serves as a reminder that just as I am, is enough. We are accepted and loved, just as we are and that is holiness. We are a gift to others because we exist. Do you buy it? What is the cost?

As we close out 2009, Yakima Interfaith Coalition La Casa Hogar our Board of Directors and staff have strived to be a gift to you and our community. Many people in a variety of different ways have crossed the threshold our home.  Thank you. You are truly a gift to us.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and our staff, we would like to wish you a happy holiday season and the best in the New Year.

Warmly,

Carole

2009 Comes to a End
La Casa celebrated the accomplishments
for  99 women and 44 children
December 11th marked the last day of class for all the participants at La Casa Hogar.  No matter the weather or situation most participants moved mountains just to attend class. Their education is important to them and we feel truly greatful to those who share our community here at  La Casa. Hogar.

  Peoples lives are changing
...one person at a time
"107 House" serving more
than 787 people
When the weather starts to get colder the demand for propane and heat goes up. “107 House”  was very busy in December.   “Being able to assist clients with propane for heating, as well as electric and natural gas makes me feel good because I know it’s cold outside!” Darlene comments. “107 House”  also received a generous supply of winter coats and gloves from Zumiez.  The coats went to homeless adults, teenagers and children. Many have shared their gratitude and we are blessed to know we meet their needs.
